This blog is 11 days late.
It was meant to be a Twixmas piece for 28 December: I had envisaged a review of 2018 and then a nod to the coming year. And Holly gave me so much notice, that I really had no excuse. However, for once, I got carried away with the Christmas spirit and ignored my deadline.
I’ve always been a bit of a Christmas grinch. I can’t bear the fuss and palaver of months of excessive planning. Being a pragmatist, if it results that I forget the chestnuts for the brussel sprout dish, I don’t fret. But perhaps the excitement for the season shown by my young children finally rubbed off on me.
I bought proper wrapping paper instead of using recycled newspaper; organised a card and chocolates for my elder son’s guitar teacher; I bought a kind of Christmas jumper off Ebay. Admittedly, I didn’t go crazy – our door stayed free of a Christmas wreath – but compared to my previous Christmas efforts, I threw myself wholeheartedly into celebrations.
Luckily, my team were on hand to pick up my slack and answered calls and emails as I pranced around my Christmas tree. And so, instead of pondering the year gone by and the new one just upon us, this blog is dedicated to my team. Not just for the work they’ve done over the past two weeks, but for the work they constantly do. I am very lucky to have Shirley, Sarah, Dan, Holly and Maciej. A huge thank you to each one of you for your energy and drive, and commitment to OC. Here’s to a successful and prosperous 2019.
