I have taught for the British Council and worked as a private French tutor for Osborne Cawkwell for 5 years. During this time I have taught in London and on residential placements around the UK. I like to work specifically with syllabus material to address individual student’s needs when it comes to public exams: I find students at 16+ respond particularly well to using new technologies such as Quizlet to drill through vocabulary, which is usually a weak spot with languages and helps listening, reading, writing and oral work. I also teach French and Italian at GCSE, AS and A Level.
All of my students, whether short or long term, have seen a rapid improvement in their grades and have achieved the results they wanted; I believe this is because, at that age, many students fail to see the advantages in learning a foreign language. I hope to inspire them to enjoy the subject more with my own natural enthusiasm!
In addition, languages benefit hugely from one-on-one attention; this focus combined with dynamic ways to improve memory and independent study skills – which I believe are fundamental – contributes to students’ personal sense of achievement and self-esteem.
