History is a fascinating yet at times problematic subject to study. Working as a GCSE History tutor, I have gained a wealth of experience on how to help students not only become better at understanding history, but understanding the demands of the examining bodies and what they are looking for to award the highest marks. Every student has unique needs, so the key is to find out where both the student’s strengths and weaknesses are. Building on a student’s strengths helps to build confidence that can then be used to tackle the areas they are struggling with. For most students the area they need the most help with is in developing the key historical analytical skills, which are needed for sources analysis and producing well-structured analytical rather than narrative essay answers. As well as GCSE History, I teach History at 13+, A Level and Degree level.
